Waxing FAQs

  • A Brazilian wax is the removal of all of the pubic hair, front to back and everything in between. However, you can choose to leave a patch of hair or strip of hair if you choose, as that is a personal preference

  • We recommend you get your waxing service done every 4 weeks, as that is the hair growth cycle so staying on that cycle is essential and has several benefits, such as the skin will be less sensitive if waxing is done regularly, the hairs will come out easier during the waxing service, and over time you will experience less hair growth.

  • The hair should be at least 1/4" - 1/2" long for best results. If you have coarse hair it should be closer to 1/2" for the first wax. After a few waxes the hair will become finer, and then it can be waxed at a shorter length. If your hair is longer than 1/2" we recommend shaving the area and then booking your waxing appointment for 2-3 weeks later.

It may take up to three waxing treatments to achieve smooth skin due to the fact that hair grows in stages and all of your hair is not at the same stage when starting the waxing process. It is very important to avoid shaving between waxing appointments, as this will interrupt the process and stimulate the hair growth again.

  • For the best results during your waxing service, we recommend you do the following prior to your waxing service:

Refrain from taking a bath immediately before the treatment. Soaking the hair will soften it, allowing it to break more easily and making waxing less effective. We do encourage showering though so the area to be waxed is clean.

Make sure the hair is the appropriate length for waxing.

Make sure that the area(s) to be waxed is/are clean.

There are certain medications and products that should not be taken or used if you plan to have a waxing treatment soon. Topical exfoliants used on the area to be waxed such as Retin-A, Renova, and hydroquinone, oral acne medications such as Accutane, blood-thinning medications, and topical/oral cortisone make the skin more sensitive and increase the likelihood of irritation or other complications. Please check with your doctor if you are unsure whether you should be waxed while taking these medications.

  • Other than hairless skin, because everyone's skin reacts differently to waxing treatments, you can expect to have temporary redness and minor irritation for a day or two. Proper post-wax care will alleviate these symptoms quickly.

  • It's possible that you'll get ingrown hairs, as everyone reacts differently. Below are a few suggestions to help reduce the chances of getting ingrown hairs:

Your skin naturally hardens and thickens over the area that was waxed so it is important to keep that area gently exfoliated. Use a gentle scrub in the waxed area about 5-7 days after waxing and continue to exfoliate every 5-7 days thereafter.

You can use a mixture of tea tree and lavender oil on the waxed area since they are antimicrobial and antibacterial and will prevent irritation.

Try to wear loose-fitting clothes for a few days after your waxing service to give your skin a chance to breathe and reduce moisture.

The bikini, lip, and underarms are where we tend to perspire the most. Perspiration and moisture cause bacteria to grow. Once that area has been waxed, the follicle is wide open to this bacteria creeping in so it's important to keep these areas clean and dry. Try to avoid heavy exercise that will increase perspiration and chaffing for about 24-48 hours after a waxing service.

  • For 24-48 hours after a waxing service avoid:

Direct sun exposure and tanning beds.

Use of exfoliating products (Alpha-Hydroxy Acid (AHA) products, loofahs, scrubs, etc).

Creams with fragrance or ingredients that may cause irritation.

Deodorant (it results in irritation and clogging of the hair follicles).

Wearing tight clothing (it results in irritation and inflammation).

Excessive moisture and heat from hot tubs or saunas.

    Swimming pools

Exercise (it may cause chaffing or sweating).

    Touching the freshly waxed area.

After 24-48 hours, regular exfoliation with a shower gel and loofah or exfoliating glove will help keep skin soft and prevent ingrown hairs.

Apply an SPF 30 or greater sunscreen to any exposed freshly waxed areas. Since waxing exfoliates as well as removes hair, your skin will be more prone to sunburn in the days following your waxing service.

  • Waxing reduces hair growth when performed on a regular schedule of every 4 weeks. While shaving crops the hair at the skin's surface, waxing pulls it out by the root so it grows back softer, finer, and thinner. Waxing is great for those who are tired of the hassle of shaving several times per week and the irritation associated with shaving.

  • No, please do not shave between waxing appointments! It disrupts the hair growth cycle resulting in more hair at your next appointment.

  • Waxing does not cause you to grow more hair follicles. In fact, if you become a regular waxer you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse and not as coarse.

When hair is shaved, it is cut off at the thick part of the hair which is why you can feel stubble the next day. A properly waxed hair is removed from the root, and when the hair starts to grow back it is a new hair that is very fine at the tip so there is no stubble.

  • We use a soy-based hair removal product for all waxing services and absolutely love the results. Here are just a few of the reasons why a soy-based hair removal product is most effective:

    * It’s not a wax and never sticks to the skin.

    * It’s self-preserving antibacterial/antimicrobial so it's safe, clean, and germ free.

    * It’s completely botanical and safe for the entire body.

    * It’s scientifically tested and does not use animal products.

  • We will wax clients of any age, but if you are younger than 18 we do require a parent to accompany you to sign our waxing consent form. The only service that you must be 18 years of age or older is for the Brazilian wax.

 Dermaplaning FAQs

  • Dermaplaning, also known as epidermal leveling, is a gentle, non-invasive form of manual exfoliation of the skin. Dermaplaning is the controlled scraping of the skin using a sterile, surgical blade to remove the keratinized cells on the outermost surface of skin. Dermaplaning is a quick, non-invasive, painless procedure in which surface dead skin cells and vellus hairs (peach fuzz) are manually scraped away.

  • A dermaplaning service uses a surgical blade to gently exfoliate the outermost layers of the epidermis to remove dead skin cells, impurities, and debris from the skin.

  • Dermaplaning encourages the skin to regenerate new skin cells, which in turn leaves your complexion smooth, soft, and vibrant. As an extra bonus, dermaplaning removes the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) from the face. This is important because excess peach fuzz can trap oil and dirt, which can lead to other problems with your skin. Once you scrape away the dirt, oil, and dead skin cells, and remove the vellus hair, facial products and treatments are much more effective because they can penetrate the skin more easily. Regular treatments of dermaplaning have been known to:

Diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

    Smooth acne scarring.

    Improve skin texture and tone.

    Help to unblock skin congestion.

Temporarily remove the vellus facial hair, also known as "peach fuzz" (hair does not grow back thicker or darker as a result).

    Generate new healthy cell growth.

Enhance penetration of skin care products.

Allow for smoother, more even makeup application.

  • Nope, not at all! Iin fact most people find it calming, soothing, and relaxing.

  • No, the hair on the face is called vellus hair and it is physiologically impossible to grow back thicker or darker after a dermaplaning service, or any hair removal service. There are two types of hair that grow on our bodies - vellus and terminal hair. Vellus hair is the fine, translucent hair that you can find on your cheeks, jaw, and neck that is often referred to as peach fuzz. Terminal hair is thicker, colored hair that grows under the arms, pubic area, legs, and eyebrows, and for men it's also the hair for their mustache and beard . When vellus hair is cut, the structure of the hair does not become damaged, therefore it is impossible to alter the hair growth pattern or style. The vellus hair on your face does not and cannot grow back any darker, thicker, or faster after a dermaplaning service because the procedure does not trigger hair follicles. The hair will grow back over time at the same rate and texture as before the treatment.

  • It is recommended that you get a dermaplaning service every 4 weeks for optimal results. It is highly recommended that you get a dermaplaning service before a big event, such as a wedding or a class reunion, due to the smoothing and rejuvenating appearance it immediately produces.

  • Anyone who desires smoother, softer, healthier, more radiant skin is a great candidate to get dermaplaning. However, if you have active acne you are not a good candidate for dermaplaning.

 Brow Lamination FAQs

  • Brow lamination is a process used to perfectly groom your eyebrows so they have a sleek, fuller looking, uniform shape.

  • Brow lamination, when properly cared for, lasts for up to 2 months.

  • Brow Lamination is a 3 step chemical process that relaxes, sets, and nourishes the eyebrow hairs so they can be formed into the desired shape.

Step 1 slowly opens the hair follicle and expands it to allow for the relaxation, also known as "straightening," to occur.

Step 2 "sets" the hair into the direction that the hair has been relaxed into during the first step and softens the hair to give it a full/thick appearance.

Step 3 is to nourish the hairs by applying a keratin treatment that will infuse into your opened hair follicle and lock in nourishment for the brow hair to make them soft and smooth.

  • Yes, if your eyebrows need to be waxed and tinted, that is included and done between steps 2 and 3 of the service.

  • Absolutely not! Brow lamination is completely painless and the process takes approximately 45 minutes so most people fall asleep.

  • When done properly, brow lamination will not cause any loss of the eyebrow hairs. Your eyebrows shed naturally in cycles just as the hair on any part of your body to allow for regrowth of the hair. It is important to keep your eyebrows hydrated by using the nourishing oil provided to you to prevent excessive shedding caused from dry hair or lack of nutrients to the hair follicle.

  • Yes, brow lamination is safe and has no contraindications for pregnant and/or breastfeeding women.

  • For the first 24 hours:

    Keep eyebrows dry.

Do not apply makeup to eyebrows.

Do not receive any other eye treatments for the first 72 hours.

Do not apply self-tanner or get a spray tan.

Do not use any chemicals, harsh abrasives, retinoids, etc around the eye area.

Do not exfoliate around the eye area.

    Do not brush/comb eyebrows.

If there's any irritation, apply a cold compress to the area to soothe and calm the skin.

After the initial 24 hours, gently comb eyebrows (only when wet) into place daily.

3 days after the service: start applying the provided aftercare conditioning oil (Some clients notice their brow hairs seem dry after this treatment and it is very important that the aftercare cream or castor oil is applied to the eyebrow hairs nightly).

 Eyelash Lift FAQs

  • An eyelash lift is a "perm" for your eyelashes that provides lift and curl from the base to the tip so your eyelashes appear thicker and fuller.

  • The results from an eyelash lift, when properly cared for, can last for up to 2 months.

  • An eyelash lift is a 3 step chemical process that relaxes, sets, and nourishes the eyelash hairs so they can be curled.

Step 1 involves using a "perming" solution to soften the eyelash hairs.

Step 2 involves using a setting solution.

Step 3 involves using a conditioning solution to ensure the eyelash don't get brittle.

  • Yes, if your eyelashes are light and need to be tinted, that is included and done toward the end of the service.

  • Absolutely not! An eyelash lift is painless, but sometimes people experience mild irritation or itchiness that quickly subsides. The process takes about an hour and most people fall asleep!

  • When the service is done properly, an eyelash lift will not damage your natural eyelashes. Your eyelashes shed naturally in cycles just as the hair on any part of your body to allow for regrowth of the hair.

  • Yes, it's safe to get an eyelash lift and there are no contraindications for pregnant and/or breastfeeding women.

  • For the first 24 hours:

    Keep eyelashes dry.

Avoid getting shampoo and conditioner on the eyelashes.

Do not apply mascara to eyelashes.

Do not use any lotions, oils, and/or creams near your eyes.

Do not use makeup remover or makeup remover wipes on your eyes.

Do not rub or touch your eyelashes.

Avoid saunas, steam rooms, and/or showers.

    Do not brush/comb eyelashes.

    Sleep on your back.

If there's any irritation, apply a cold compress to the area to soothe and calm the skin.

After the initial 24 hours, gently comb eyelashes (only when damp) into place daily.

2-3 days after receiving the service you can wear oil-free mascara and use oil-free makeup remover, as needed.

Ingrown Hair Treatment FAQs

  • An ingrown hair treatment is just what it sounds like - a treatment aimed at helping to reduce the likelihood of getting ingrown hairs in any area (pubic region, underarms, neck, or any other area that you struggle with ingrown hairs). An added benefit is that it helps lighten any hyperpigmentation or dark spots you may have and calms the skin if there's any irritation from waxing, shaving, or laser treatments.

  • An ingrown hair treatment includes an exfoliating cleanse, application of an enzyme peel, removal of any ingrown hairs that are present, application of a calming mask, and use of high frequency to ensure all bacteria is killed to prevent future ingrown hairs.

  • No! An ingrown hair treatment is calming and soothing. With that said, the extractions of the ingrown hairs, if done, can be slightly uncomfortable, but it's definitely not unbearable.

  • Extraction of ingrown hairs

Exfoliation to remove dead skin cells

Soothes any irritation from waxing, shaving, or laser treatments

Evens the texture of the skin

    Lightens and brightens the skin

  • Yes and no! With the products and protocol we typically use, an ingrown hair treatment is safe for breastfeeding women, but not for pregnant women. However, we can easily modify and adjust the products used and refrain from using the high frequency to ensure it's safe for you even if you're pregnant so you can still experience all of the benefits.

Chemical Peel FAQs

  • A chemical peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers of skin. A chemical peel involves the application of chemical solutions to the skin in a controlled manner, producing controlled tissue death. The desired depth of the wound is dependent upon the condition to be treated. Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments that can be applied to the face, hands, neck, and décolletage, as well as other body parts. They're used to improve the appearance and texture of the skin. During the procedure, chemical solutions will be applied to the area being treated, which causes the skin to exfoliate and eventually peel off, which then leaves the new skin underneath smoother, lighter, less wrinkled, and more even textured.

  • Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles, discolored skin, fine lines and wrinkles, and scars. Chemical peels are typically performed on the face, hands, neck, and décolletage, but can be performed anywhere on your body that you want to treat. A chemical peel can be done alone, or combined with other cosmetic procedures, and they can be done at different depths, from light to deep, to achieve your desired results. The deeper chemical peels offer more dramatic results but also take longer to recover during the peeling/healing process.

  • This varies so much since it's based on what level of peel is performed, what results you want to achieve, what your home care is, and how consistent you'll be with your skin care. It's recommended to do a series of 3-5 chemical peels spaced 7-14 days apart (varies based on depth of chemical peel) with a gradual increase in depth of the chemical peel, and then every 3-4 months for maintenance.

  • Light (superficial) peels - uses a mild acid to gently exfoliate and only penetrates the outermost layer of skin.

Medium peels - uses a combination of mild acids to reach the middle and outer layer of skin to remove damaged skin cells.

Deep peels - uses more aggressive acids to fully penetrate the middle layer of the skin to remove damaged skin cells.

  • There is definitely a tingling sensation during the application of the chemical peel; however, it's fairly quick and subsides almost immediately after the peel has been on your face. After a chemical peel the treated skin can be red, tight, and mildly irritated, yet is not unbearable.

  • The amount of peeling you can expect to experience after a chemical peel depends on the depth of the chemical peel. Chemical peels can be light (level 1), medium (level 2), or deep-penetrating (level 3), so your recovery could take anywhere from a few days to more than a week. And, not always do you see visible peeling no matter the level of the peel, but it happens at a cellular level so it's important to give your skin enough time to heal.

  • For the most part, reasonably healthy persons can safely receive chemical peels, but there are some health conditions and skin characteristics that make chemical peels less effective and increase the risk of adverse effects. The most common candidate for a chemical peel is a person with sun-damaged skin, uneven pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and/or acneic skin/acneic scarred skin.

  • After receiving a chemical peel it's best to keep your skin care routine simple and gentle. We stress the importance of using a high-quality sunscreen and minimizing direct sun exposure to protect your skin all of the time, but specifically after receiving a chemical peel. And most importantly, DO NOT pick at your skin during the peeling/healing process.

Microdermabrasion Treatment FAQs

  • A microdermabrasion treatment is a quick, safe, and effective form of exfoliation for all skin types with no downtime and virtually no discomfort. The treatment is done using diamond-tip technology to remove dead or damaged skin cells. Your skin will appear softer, smoother, brighter, clearer, and younger looking.

  • The area to receive the treatment is cleansed to remove excess oils from the skin. A diamond tip wand is manually passed over the skin and gently abrades the surface to thoroughly remove the dead skin cells and impurities from the skin. The procedure is quick and painless and takes approximately 30 minutes. After the microdermabrasion treatment is complete serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen is applied to your skin.

  • A microdermabrasion treatment is performed without any pain or discomfort and can be adjusted as needed to your comfort level. At the most, sensitive skin might experience a sensation resembling a light sunburn or windburn. After the treatment the skin has a temporary pink glow that subsides shortly thereafter. You can resume your normal activities immediately after a microdermabrasion treatment

  • The recommended amount of microdermabrasion treatments varies on each person. However, most people need to get a series of 3-6 treatments with each treatment being spaced 10-14 days apart, and then maintenance treatments are recommended every few months. Results are most noticeable after the third microdermabrasion treatment, although it is not uncommon to see results after the first treatment.

  • Anyone seeking a healthy, more vibrant appearance can receive a microdermabrasion treatment. It is recommended for people with uneven granular skin, sun damage, enlarged pores, blackheads, fine lines and wrinkles, minor acne scars, and skin discoloration since the focus and purpose of a microdermabrasion treatment is to improve skin texture and restore the elasticity and clarity of the skin.

  • We stress the importance of using a high-quality sunscreen and minimizing direct sun exposure to protect your skin all of the time, but specifically after receiving a microdermabrasion treatment. Avoid exfoliating scrubs for 72 hours after receiving a microdermabrasion treatment.

Skin Lightening Treatment FAQs

  • Skin lightening is the process of lightening and brightening the skin in various areas, such as the nipples, bikini line, butt cheeks, anal region, inner thighs, Brazilian, and underarms. A chemical is used to produce the results of fresher, lighter, and brighter skin.

  • Skin lightening is perfect for both men and women and safe for all skin types, including persons of color and those with sensitive skin. If you’re pregnant and/or breastfeeding, please check with your doctor to make sure this is a safe option for you.

  • Yes, the chemical products used for the service are formulated to be very safe, gentle, and non-irritating, yet highly effective.

  • Yes, skin lightening is the perfect add-on to an existing hair removal appointment. It is completely safe to perform the treatment piggybacked on top of a waxing service, and in most cases you get better results when it's done that way.

  • Not typically! You may feel a slight tingly sensation for a brief moment, but it quickly subsides.

  • You should expect a visible difference after just a few treatments. Of course, results depend on the cause and severity of the discoloration. A series of 3-6 treatments spaced 10-21 days apart is recommended, and then approximately every 3-4 months you’ll need another 1-2 treatments for maintenance. Following a strict, consistent home care routine will provide you with the best results.

  • For the first 48-72 hours:

    Do not wear deodorant.

Avoid direct and prolonged sun exposure.

Do not apply anything to block air/oxygen from skin.

Do not apply self-tanner or get a spray tan.

    Wear loose clothing.

    Avoid sexual activity.

Avoid saunas, swimming pools, and hot tubs.

 Permanent Jewelry FAQs

  • Permanent jewelry is custom fit jewelry (bracelet, anklet, necklace, or ring) without a clasp that’s welded together with a small flash so it stays on until you’re ready to remove it.

  • Yes! Removing permanent jewelry is actually really easy! You can simply cut the jewelry with a pair of scissors or wire cutters to remove the jewelry.

  • If you remove the permanent and keep the chain, often times it can be welded together again when you’re ready to wear it again so don’t throw away your permanent jewelry once it’s removed.

  • It’s completely safe and painless to get permanent jewelry! However, the “spark” that happens when the jewelry is being attached can be damaging if you were to look at it with your bare eyes so that’s why you’re provided with a pair of safety glasses to wear to protect your eyes.

  • Absolutely! It’s completely safe to get permanent jewelry if you’re pregnant and/or breastfeeding.

  • A welder is used to attach the permanent jewelry so there is a “spark” or “zap” associated with that; however, it’s painless and non-invasive.

  • Not exactly! Because jewelry isn’t typically designed to be worn all of the time, in doing so, as in the case of permanent jewelry, there is a risk of the jewelry getting tarnished or discoloring, the jewelry getting damaged, the jewelry breaking, and/or the jewelry stretching due to daily wear and daily activities.

  • Nope! Since getting permanent jewelry is completely safe, you can be any age to get it and enjoy it!
